Onkgopotse Tiro Abram Ramothibi's Lecture.


The family of the slain student activist, Onkgopotse Tiro, will again be  expressing gratitude at the hall at the University of Limpopo outside Polokwane on 12 september, 39 years after apartheid forces assassinated him in Botswana.His maternal aunt (his mother’s younger sister), Bafedile Masoba, 77 is expected attend and share with the university the life of this hero, her nephew who was expelled from this institution for his political activities in 1972.“Days before he was killed I walked to Botswana to warn him after we got wind that apartheid police had recruited black informers to watch his movements. said hishearted aunt.He was first personally called by some white agents who offered to give him a house and a Mercedes-Benz car on conditions he agreed to sell out black people. Of course he refused and chose to stand for justice,” the frail woman recalled.Tiro’s other relative, Bonang Masinga, 73, who also will be travelleing from Dinokaneng in Zeerust in the North West province to attend the ceremony at the university, thanked the university last year for the plaque in Tiro’s honour unveilled by Chancellor Dr. Khoza and vice-chancellor Prof. Mokgalong and said it would forever remain an important moment for the entire family.“From now on we shall live and rest in peace, our son’s contribution in freeing people from slavery is recognised,” said Masing. Tiro's 3rd lecture to be held on the 12 of september at tiro hall, come as the life of this fearless student will be shared amongst and by the honourable Kgalema Motlanthe.
